DAVENPORT, Iowa — Residents of a Davenport apartment complex have been ordered to evacuate.
According to a posting at 330 Oak Street, residents were order to vacate the premises by Tuesday, June 11. The posting cites an engineer's report as the reason for the evacuation. That report says the property's owner had been ordered to correct violations before a specific deadline, but a reinspection revealed that the necessary changes hadn't been made.
The evacuation comes as members of the Quad Cities Tenant Alliance are calling on city leaders to pass a housing ordinance that would allow tenants to avoid paying rent while their unit is deemed unsafe to live in.
