DAVENPORT, Iowa — More than 7,000 MidAmerican customers experienced power outages Monday morning, according to the energy company. A MidAmerican official said there were two brief interruptions caused by equipment failure.
The first occurred around 8:55 a.m. after crews began scheduled maintenance work at a Davenport substation. In order for the crews to work safely, the substation's components needed to be de-energized. One of the substation's transmission sources was isolated and inflow was moved to a second transmission source.
A part of that secondary transmission source failed and knocked out power for 7,300 Davenport customers. The power was restored after about 13 minutes. MidAmerican said some customers lost power while others had a voltage reduction.
Crews restored the original transmission source and are working to address the component failure for the second source, MidAmerican said.
Later Monday morning, the restored circuit failed completely and knocked out power for around 7,400 people. It happened just after 11:20 a.m. MidAmerican said the second outage impacted most of the same customers as the first one, but not entirely. Power was restored about 25 minutes later.
As of noon, power has been restored to most customers in the Quad Cities area. News 8 received a photo showing traffic signals were out at the intersection of Locust and Marquette streets.
