MOLINE, Ill. — A Virginia man has been arrested after police said he stole a vehicle and led police on a chase in Moline.
Around 1:40 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29, officers with the Moline Police Department responded to Rock River Plaza on 44th Avenue after receiving a report of a robbery.
The caller told police a man had forced them out of their vehicle in the parking lot and had stolen their car. The suspect has been identified as 42-year-old Brandon M. Burrows of Portsmouth, Virginia.
An MPD detective was in the area at the time of the robbery and attempted to stop Burrows when police said he fled west on John Deere Road onto I-74. Numerous officers pursued Burrows before he hit police spike strips and eventually came to a stop at 16th Street and 36th Avenue.
Burrows allegedly inferred during the offense that he had a gun but police did not locate one. He was arrested and charged with the following offenses:
- Vehicular hijacking, Class 1 felony
- Aggravated robbery, Class 1 felony
- Possession of a stolen vehicle, Class 2 felony
- Aggravated fleeing a police officer, Class 4 felony
The Rock Island State's Attorney's office filed a petition to deny pretrial release under Illinois' Pretrial Fairness Act which was granted.
Early Sunday morning, four Quad Cities teenagers were arrested after allegedly stealing a vehicle and leading police on a chase in East Moline.
