HAMPTON, Ill. — Nearly two months after 92-year-old William Weber was declared missing, the veteran's body was found submerged inside his car in Empire Park on Tuesday, May 28. Two dive teams—the United Search Corps and Chaos Divers—were the ones who located that vehicle and tipped off local police about their findings.
Jacob Grubbs, a member of Chaos Divers, is part of a team devoted to recovering lost loved ones.
"To figure out the spots that we search, we do a lot of research," Grubbs said.
That research involves speaking with families and gathering clues about the missing person.
"If we don't find anything, then we go to different locations," Grubbs said.
On Tuesday, Grubbs and his partner, Lindsay Bussick, searched the Mississippi River for Weber's car. They utilized sonar technology to help them locate it.
"This recovery was flawless. East Moline police department and fire department and the IAT or the DNR, they were amazing," Grubbs said.
It's a recovery that brought closure to the Weber family and for Bussick, as well.
"William was about the same age as my grandparents would be. So to be able to bring home somebody's grandpa, that just meant a little bit more to me," Bussick said.
Dough Bishop is the found of United Search Corps, and he also helped in the recovery process.
"It's tough whenever a family loses someone that they love," Bishop sad. "It never gets easier. It gets harder."
Similar to Chaos Divers, Bishop has helped solve several cases of missing people, and he wants people to know that divers like him can help. You can learn more about the United Search Corps here and Chaos Divers here.
