Man charged with DUI after officials say he rear-ended Galesburg police car

According to Galesburg police, 27-year-old Cody A. Sibley struck an officer's squad car on Tuesday night while the officer was conducting a traffic stop.

GALESBURG, Ill. — A man was arrested after allegedly crashing into a Galesburg police car.

According to Galesburg police, an officer was conducting a traffic stop near the intersection of Ella and Lincoln Streets around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12. Police claim a gold minivan struck the rear of the squad car before fleeing south on Lincoln Street. Officers said they then pursued the suspect, and the chase ended after the minivan allegedly struck a utility pole near Berrien Street and Churchill Avenue.

The driver, identified as 27-year-old Cody A. Sibley, was arrested at the scene. Police claim that Sibley was found to have a blood alcohol content of 0.198% when tested at the Galesburg Police Department. Sibley was charged with the following:

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol
  • Reckless driving
  • Aggravated fleeing and eluding
  • Operation of a vehicle with suspended registration
  • Possession of open cannabis in a vehicle
