Police make arrest in July Galesburg shooting

GALESBURG, Ill. — A man has been arrested in connection to a Galesburg shooting that took place in July.

Galesburg police announced the arrest of 39-year-old Gregory Wallace on Tuesday, Oct. 29. Wallace was apprehended in Chicago by the Chicago Police Department and an FBI task force before being transported back to Knox County. Wallace is being charged with attempted murder.

According to Galesburg police, officers responded to a reported shooting in the 000 block of South Cherry Street around 11:45 p.m. and found a man, later identified as Mario Washington, in the street with a gunshot wound. Washington was hospitalized for his injuries but was eventually released.

An arrest warrant on attempted murder charges for 43-year-old James Wilson is still active.
