16-year-old girl killed in Lee County homicide

ASHTON, Ill. — One person is dead following a suspected homicide in Lee County.

According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, officers received a call from the Rochelle Police Department around 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15. The caller from the Rochelle Police Department said a 17-year-old male had walked into the department's lobby and informed staff "he was involved in a murder," according to a press release from the sheriff's office. The 17-year-old provided officials with an address in the 700 block of Richardson Avenue in Ashton, where authorities found the body of a 16-year-old female.

The identity of the victim and the person who reported the murder to police haven't been released. Officials didn't say if any charges have been filed, but officers believe the incident was connected to a domestic violence incident. Officers said there is no risk to the public.
