DAVENPORT, Iowa — Employees at the Kraft Heinz facility in Davenport were evacuated Thursday morning due to a chemical leak, according to officials.

Crews with the Davenport Fire Department responded to the manufacturing facility around 6:40 a.m. after an ammonia leak was detected. According to a DFD news release, all employees were safely evacuated by the time DFD's Hazardous Material Team arrived.

Around 10:30 a.m., a security guard told News 8 crews at the scene that fire officials had been at the scene for over two hours. DFD said it helped the company trace the leak back to an internal cooling system. The problem was isolated and the area has been properly ventilated.

DFD said monitoring equipment set up within a mile of the plant showed there were no additional problems outside of the plant related to the leak.

No injuries were reported and the company will resume air monitoring, DFD said.

Here is the full statement from Kraft Heinz on the incident:

Early this morning, we detected a refrigerant fluid leak in our Davenport manufacturing facility. Out of an abundance of caution, we sent all employees home. The leak has been fixed and we expect to resume normal operations this evening.
