MOLINE, Ill. — A Moline middle school student was detained Tuesday morning after police determined they brought a BB gun to school.
According to a Moline Police Department news release, officials received a 911 call at 7:30 a.m. from a passenger on a city bus who stated that a student had a gun on the bus. The caller gave officials the student's description and identified the bus number they were on.
Officials said they detained the 12-year-old student outside of John Deere Middle School and found a BB gun that looked identical to a real handgun in their possession.
Police said there is no danger to the public and commended the caller for calling 911.
The case is under investigation by the Moline Police Department Criminal Investigation Division Juvenile Unit.
