Henry County deputy shoots and kills dog that allegedly bit person

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

ORION, Ill. — A Henry County sheriff's deputy shot and killed a dog that officers claim bit another person.

Around 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, officers with the Henry County Sheriff's Department said they received a report of a dog biting a person on the 1000 block of Fourth Street in Orion. Upon arriving at the scene, medics treated the victim before they were brought to a hospital for additional care.

Afterward, officers said a deputy found the dog they believed responsible for the bite on the 900 block of Fourth Street. Officers claim the dog "displayed aggressive behavior in close proximity of the deputy," according to a Facebook post describing the incident. The deputy then shot and killed the dog.

Officers said they contacted the dog's owner following the shooting but did not say whether any charges are being filed in relation to this incident.
