Investigation launched after 'swatting' call in Grand Mound

The scene included deputies, SWAT team members and state troopers.

GRAND MOUND, Iowa — Law enforcement cleared the area in the 600 block of Smith St. in Grand Mound Wednesday evening after a heavy presence of deputies, SWAT team members and state troopers.

News 8's Devin Brooks and Linnea Hoover arrived at the scene to learn that the incident was classified as a "swatting" call. Swatting aims to tie up first responders' resources. Law enforcement had blocked off the whole area to travelers, and News 8 witnessed a SWAT tactical team enter a home in the area.

About 10-15 minutes later, they came out and appeared to have resolved the situation in a peaceful manner. Law enforcement told News 8 that the house had been cleared.

According to officials, two families were inside and everyone was unharmed.

This all comes just a few months after a similar situation at area schools.

State and federal police are part of the investigations.
