3 residents hospitalized following Galesburg house fire

The residents were transported to a local hospital to be evaluated for smoke inhalation.

GALESBURG, Ill. — A home in Galesburg has been declared a total loss after an accidental fire late Thursday night.

According to a news release, Firefighters responded to the blaze in the 700 block of Mulberry Street around 11 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12, and found heavy smoke emerging from the two-story home. 

Witnesses reported that a person was trapped on the second floor. Firefighters searched the area and rescued a dog from the structure. It was later confirmed that all residents had safely evacuated before first responders arrived.

Three residents were transported to a local hospital to be evaluated for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters remained at the scene into Friday morning to extinguish lingering pockets of fire. The home was ultimately deemed a total loss, and the fire was ruled unintentional.
