Fire breaks out in Rock Island Thursday evening

According to the Rock Island Fire Chief, crews arrived to find a fire impacting two houses.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Crews battled a large house fire in Rock Island Thursday evening. 

A call came in around 6:20 p.m. about a structure fire on 22nd Street near 9th Avenue, according to Rock Island Fire Chief Robert Graff. Crews arrived to find a fire impacting two houses and immediately began tackling the flames. 

Officials from Rock Island, Davenport, Rock Island Arsenal, Moline and East Moline responded to the scene to help. He said medics were on scene but did not say if anyone was hurt.

At 8:30 p.m., Rock Island Deputy Fire Chief Greg Marty said investigators had arrived at the scene to begin an investigation. News 8 saw responders putting up fire tape. No information on the cause of the fire was provided. 

News 8 went to the scene around 6:45 p.m. and observed a two-story home fully engulfed in flames. It appeared to be dying down as of 7:30 p.m.
