LASALLE COUNTY, Ill. — A 25-year-old man is dead following an accident involving fireworks in Illinois, officials say.
According to a press release from the LaSalle County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a residence in rural Ottawa around 12:30 a.m. on July 5 for "an incident involving illegal fireworks." EMS and Utica Fire officials also responded.
Officials say the man was transported to a local hospital and later died from his injuries sustained during the accident. His identity has not been released pending family notification.
The incident remains under investigation by the LaSalle County Sheriff's Office, the LaSalle County Coroner and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
Almost all consumer fireworks are banned in Illinois unless an ordinance specifically allows them. Most towns on the Illinois side of the News 8 viewing region prohibit their use without a permit. Fireworks like ground spinners or sparklers are allowed.
