EAST MOLINE, Ill. — Police and family members of a missing East Moline man have confirmed that his body and vehicle have been found submerged near the Empire Park boat ramp.
A dive team with the United Search Corps located the vehicle shortly before noon on Tuesday, May 28 and notified the police. According to police, the divers said they found a body inside the vehicle, and they believed the car's make and model matched the one driven by 92-year-old William Weber, who went missing in March.
Candyce Weber, Weber's daughter-in-law, confirmed with News 8 Tuesday afternoon that the body and car belonged to Weber. She said their family feels a mix of sadness and relief that Weber was found.
East Moline Police Chief Jeff Ramsey later confirmed that the vehicle was identified as Weber's Silver 2012 Chevy Malibu.
On Thursday, May 30, Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson said the body was positively identified as Weber. The manner of death is inconclusive, but Gustafson said there is no evidence of foul play or that anyone brought any harm to him.
