Police: 1 dead in East Moline homicide Sunday

Shortly after 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, East Moline Police responded to the 200 block of 16th Avenue for an unknown problem where they found a man with a gunshot wound.

EAST MOLINE, Ill. — Update 2:50 p.m. on Monday, July 22: Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson has identified the victim as 40-year-old Damion L. Hall of Rock Island. 

An autopsy was conducted Monday in Rockford and preliminary results indicate Hall died of a gunshot wound in the abdomen. 

The investigation is ongoing by the East Moline Police Department and the Rock Island County Coroner's Office, with the assistance of the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigations Division.

Shortly after 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 21, officers with the East Moline Police Department responded to the 200 block of 16th Avenue for an unknown problem. According to Captain Jason Kratt, officers found a man inside a residence with a gunshot wound and began administering life-saving measures until medical personnel arrived on scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital but he was pronounced deceased upon arrival. 

East Moline police detectives have launched an active investigation into the incident. As of 12:50 p.m., the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigation unit is processing the scene. 

Police say the victim's identity will be released by Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson once the family has been notified. 

An initial investigation suggests the incident was isolated and police say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
