Man arrested after police respond to shots fired call Friday night in DeWitt

DEWITT, Iowa — One person is in custody after police responded to a shots fired call in DeWitt on Friday night, according to an arrest affidavit.

Shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 16, officers with the DeWitt Police Department responded to the 1500 block of 8th Avenue after receiving reports of shots being fired at a residence. According to the affidavit, an officer approached a man in the home's backyard before he ran inside and could be heard by police telling people to leave.

The home's owner told police that 38-year-old Carsten Ketelsen had fired shots in the backyard. The homeowner told police that Ketelsen was inside a room with several guns and wearing a vest. 

The arrest affidavit says that police soon heard someone yelling before Ketelsen walked out of the house and into a shed on the property. A police officer then made contact with Ketelsen, who had a gun and was intoxicated.

Ketelsen was taken into custody and charged with reckless discharge of a firearm. 

According to the affidavit, police arrested Ketelsen and recovered the weapon from him. He was charged with reckless use of a firearm. No injuries were reported.
