DeKalb County Sheriff's Deputy killed in the line of duty

35-year-old Christina Musil was killed after a truck hit her parked squad car from behind, officials say.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ill. — A DeKalb County Sheriff's Deputy is dead following a crash on Thursday night, officials say.

According to the Illinois State Police, officers responded to reports of a crash on Illinois Route 23 south of Perry Road on Thursday, March 28 shortly after 10:30 p.m. Officers said 35-year-old Christina Musil was sitting in her parked squad car on the right shoulder of the road when her vehicle was struck from behind by a Kenworth truck. Musil, a five-year veteran of the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office, was hospitalized but ultimately died of her injuries. The investigation into the crash is still ongoing. The identity of the truck driver hasn't been released.

According to a press release from the sheriff's office, Musil was a military police officer in the Army National Guard and also served in Afghanistan.
