DAVENPORT, Iowa — Part of downtown Davenport was filled with smoke on Thursday morning after an underground electrical transformer exploded, officials said.
According to a Davenport Fire Department news release, multiple parties reported a loud explosion and a mass of black smoke coming from the ground just after 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21. Officials responded to the Brady Street and Third Street area and found smoke coming from an underground utility vault. Multiple areas of fire were found underground and contained to the vault.
MidAmerican crews determined that an underground electrical transformer had failed, which caused the explosion and fire.
Officials said there were no injuries, and the incident only caused minor electrical disruptions.
