Firefighters put out Sterling house fire

Two families were displaced, and three people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

STERLING, Ill. — Sterling firefighters battled a blaze at a local home on Tuesday night.

According to the Sterling Fire Department, firefighters were called to a house fire on the 200 block of Sixth Avenue around 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Upon arrival, crews said the two-story structure was on fire, with smoke visible from an upstairs window. It took approximately 250 gallons of water to extinguish the fire, according to Sterling fire officials.

Two families were displaced, and three people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. Two cats had to be resuscitated, and they are being cared for by Whiteside Animal Control.

The Red Cross is assisting the families impacted.
