ANAMOSA, Iowa — The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is investigating a wastewater discharge in Anamosa.

According to the DNR, the City of Anamosa discovered the discharge around 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday, March 27, and subsequently notified the DNR. The City said the discharge occurred following an equipment failure at the wastewater plant lift station.

The DNR believes that around 50,000 gallons of untreated sewage spilled into a storm drain leading to the Wapsipinicon River. Anamosa city officials say the spill has been fixed and cleanup efforts are underway.

The DNR said no dead fish have been found as a result of the spill. River users should exercise caution and stay out of the river.
