STERLING, Ill. — Update, 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 24: Police say a 17-year-old male remains in critical condition after a shooting in Sterling Tuesday evening. The other victim, a 14-year-old male, "is reported as stable," according to an update sent Wednesday from the department. Both victims are from Sterling.
An initial investigation found the two victims were passengers in a car shot at by occupants of a second vehicle. Police say the occupants of the vehicles know each other.
Detectives with the Sterling Police Department are asking for the public's help in the case. The investigation is ongoing and police say more information will be released as it's made available.

Two people are injured after a shooting in Sterling on Tuesday night.
According to the Sterling Police Department, officers received reports of a shooting around 13th Avenue and East 5th Street shortly before 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23.
At the scene, investigators said they found two males with gunshot wounds. Police believe the victims were in a vehicle when someone fired at them, leading the car to crash into a power line pole.
Both victims were hospitalized, and no further information on their condition has been released.
Law enforcement officials said they believe the shooting was an isolated incident with no remaining threat to the public.
