1 person killed in Scott County crash

Investigators believe a vehicle went airborne after hitting an embankment off of New Liberty Road.

SCOTT COUNTY, Iowa — A 77-year-old woman is dead after a Monday afternoon crash.

According to the Scott County Sheriff's Office, officers responded to a call reporting a car crash near the 12500 block of New Liberty Road shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Monday, July 8.

According to investigators, a gray 2010 was heading westbound when the vehicle veered off-road and struck an embankment, sending it airborne. The vehicle landed in a cornfield on the north side of the road, and the driver drove through the field until coming to rest in another ditch.

Investigators said there were two people inside of the car—a 64-year-old male who drove the vehicle and a 77-year-old female passenger. The driver received medical attention but refused additional treatment. The woman was taken to the hospital, where she eventually died. Both were wearing their seatbelts during the accident, according to police.

The names of the people involved in the crash haven't been released. The crash is still under investigation.
