PREEMPTION, Ill. — One person is dead after a Friday morning accident north of Preemption, Illinois, officials say.
According to a Mercer County Sheriff's Office news release, first responders from Mercer and Rock Island counties were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident on Highway 67, just north of Preemption, on Friday, Feb. 16.
Social media posts from community members say the highway was closed for some time due to the accident.
Both drivers were transported to a Rock Island hospital. According to the release, one of the drivers succumbed to their injuries and was later pronounced dead. Their identity has not yet been made public.
Mercer County deputies were assisted at the scene by the Rock Island County Sheriff's Office, Sherrard Fire, Matherville Fire, AMT ambulance and Coal Valley Fire.
