MOLINE, Ill. — Power is starting to come back to the greater Quad Cities region — but thousands still remain without after what has been confirmed as a derecho moved through Iowa and Illinois Monday evening. At least three tornadoes were confirmed as well.
At the peak, around 32,000 MidAmerican customers were without power Monday night and an estimated 30,000 Ameren Illinois customers lost service. Those numbers are starting to drop as of 7 p.m. Tuesday. MidAmerican anticipates power will be restored to most customers by 7 a.m. Wednesday, with a full restoration completed by 7 p.m.
MidAmerican said more than 500 workers are responding to remaining outages Tuesday, but extensive storm damage has slowed progress. Tree and line crews are working together to clear tree debris and replace broken poles.
