Moline man arrested after stealing wallet from customer in Jewel parking lot

Moline police say they have arrested a man accused of stealing a wallet from a customer putting his groceries away in the Jewel-Osco parking lot.

MOLINE, Ill. — Moline police say they have arrested a man accused of stealing a wallet from a customer putting his groceries away in the Jewel-Osco parking lot on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

According to authorities, the incident happened shortly before 1:30 p.m. Police met with a robbery victim who said he was putting his groceries in his car when a man opened his passenger door and took his wallet. A struggle ensued inside the vehicle before the suspect, later identified as 18-year-old Alijah J. Marshal, fled across the parking lot into a white Lincoln MKZ.

Authorities say they used surveillance video to identify Marshall as the suspect before conducting surveillance at Marshall's residence in the 1800 block of 14th Avenue and observing him enter the residence.

News 8 was at the scene Tuesday afternoon as police surrounded the residence in an attempt to get Marshall to exit. A search warrant was obtained around 6 p.m. and Marshall eventually exited the residence and was arrested.

Police located the Lincoln MKZ at the residence, which was found to be stolen out of Moline.

The Rock Island County State’s Attorney has filed the following charges against Marshall:

  1. Unlawful Vehicular Invasion, a Class 1 Felony
  2. Robbery, a Class 2 Felony
  3. Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, a Class 2 Felony
  4. Theft $500<$10,000, a Class 3 Felony

Marshall was arrested and held in the Rock Island County Jail pending further court proceedings under the Pretiral Fairness Act. Marshall was on pre-trial release for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle in July. The State’s Attorney filed a petition to revoke his release on that case and Marshall is detained in the Rock Island County jail until trial.
