LASALLE, Ill. — Police have located a suspect connected to a LaSalle shooting that left one woman dead, officials say.
Around 8 p.m. Thursday, officers were dispatched to a Flying J Truck Stop at 343 Civic Rd. in LaSalle after getting reports of a person being shot, according to the town's police department. Responders found a deceased woman near the fuel pumps who had died from an apparent gunshot wound.
Officers learned that the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle. The department launched an investigation. Detectives were able to identify the suspect and the suspect's vehicle based on evidence collected at the scene, according to a press release. They issued a nationwide broadcast to inform other law enforcement agencies of the suspect's description.
According to police, the woman was able to be identified and it was found that she had been reported missing in Michigan.
Later Thursday night around midnight, the Bettendorf Police Department located the suspect's vehicle at a rest stop off I-80 in Iowa. While officers approached the vehicle, they heard a gunshot from inside, later finding the suspect had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The names of the victim and suspect are being withheld until next of kin can be notified. Officials say that the situation appears to be domestic and that neither person had ties to LaSalle.
