ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered by PETA to anybody who can provide information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the Rock Island Livestock Auction Barn fire that killed one cow.
The former Rock Island Livestock Auction Barn burned down on Saturday, Feb. 24. Rescue crews saved 23 cows from the blaze, but one died.
The Rock Island Fire Marshal determined the fire to be the result of a deliberate act. The fire is being investigated as arson by the Rock Island Police Department Investigations Division.
“A helpless, terrified cow burned to death inside a barn, unable to escape the flames surrounding him,” PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said. “PETA urges anyone with information to come forward immediately before his killer harms anyone else, and we encourage anyone disturbed by the thought of his agonizing death to go vegan.”
Anybody with information should contact the Fire Marshal's office at 309-732-2803, the Rock Island Police Department at 309-732-COPS (2677), or submit a tip through Crime Stoppers of the Quad Cities at 309-762-9500 or P3tips.com.
