BETTENDORF, Iowa — A person is in serious condition after police say a LeClaire man intentionally hit them with his car, arrest records show.
According to arrest records, the incident took place just after 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the TBK Sports Complex in Bettendorf. The victim and suspect, who has been identified as 19-year-old Holden Van Smith, allegedly planned to meet each other via social media for a fight.
Police said Smith intentionally swerved his vehicle and accelerated towards the victim, ultimately striking them. Smith then allegedly crashed through a fence before coming to a stop on one of the complex's soccer fields.
Smith then allegedly fled on foot before being arrested. Police said they also found a machete in the vehicle Smith was driving.
Smith has been charged with attempted murder, criminal mischief, going armed with intent and willful injury. Smith is being held at the Scott County Jail on a $500,000 cash bond.
The unidentified victim was seriously injured and is set to undergo brain surgery. They were taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Peoria.
