MUSCATINE, Iowa — Drivers will have to use a few more coins than before to park in Muscatine’s downtown area. The Muscatine City Council approved a resolution to increase prices for parking meters at a meeting on Nov. 7.
Fees for two-hour meters now come at 75 cents per hour, and those for ten-hour meters went up to 40 cents per hour. Standard coins can still be used.
A display on every meter will indicate the total time purchased. For two-hour meters, deposited nickels provide four minutes of parking, dimes eight and quarters 20. For ten-hour meters, nickels provide seven minutes, dimes 15 and quarters 37.
Parking-meter hoods also increased, now costing $5.00 per day. An implementation of mPay2Park, a mobile payment option, will go into effect with the rate on the app currently at 35 cents per transaction. City staff have yet to update the meters to accept mPay2Park, however.
More information regarding how to use the app will be provided as the steps to officially launch it are made.
