GALESBURG, Ill. — Four people have been displaced after a fire broke out overnight in Galesburg, according to city officials.

Around 2:15 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, crews with the Galesburg Fire Department responded to the 1700 block of E. Main Street for a structure fire. According to a press release, firefighters noticed heavy flames coming out from numerous windows on the residence's first floor. Crews used multiple hose lines to control the fire from the exterior before tackling it from the inside, where they were able to fully extinguish the blaze.

All four occupants were asleep at the time but were able to evacuate before responders arrived. No injuries were reported and the Red Cross has been contacted to assist the displaced residents. The residence has been deemed a total loss, city officials said.

Officials said the fire was not intentional but a cause was not provided.
