Pay It Forward | Giving back through meal prep

Angerer Eats based in Bettendorf is a local meal prep business that is using their cooking skills to help make someone's day a little easier.

BETTENDORF, Iowa — Pat Angerer's wife, Mary, owns a local meal prep business called Angerer Eats located in Bettendorf, Iowa. People around the Quad Cities can order fully prepped and oven-ready meals for their families.

“She does a lot of good things in the community. She helps out a lot of people. She’s never one that’s, ‘hey if you need anything let me know’. She’s always there, she’s at your door with food," Pat said.

He knew the money would immediately go back to benefitting people in the community, and that's why he nominated Mary for the Pay It Forward award, sponsored by Ascentra Credit Union.

For the past four years, Mary's business has grown from preparing 90 meals to around 700 meals each week! She offers multiple meals to choose from that can fit everyone's desires.

“We do family size and individual size and offer around 6 meals a week for people. You can order on Mondays, and you can pick it up the following Monday. We also offer delivery to Bettendorf and Davenport," Mary said.

With the success of the business and the help of her amazing staff, she has been able to use that success and give back to the community.

“We just partnered with Gilda’s Club as well. We’re gonna be putting a freezer in there and offering extra meals for people to be able to grab or for people to be able to make their meals. We also just did a Thanksgiving giveaway where we raised money and we were able to feed 36 local families," Mary said.

Mary started her business because she loves to cook and cook for others. A home-cooked and oven-ready meal can go a long way for a family in need.

“I just feel like that is probably kind of like my bigger passion with this. Just because it gets redundant doing the same thing each week, but then also just helping the people makes it worth each week to be able to do things like that," Mary said.

Her desire to give back continues to grow as she hopes to find more ways to get involved with helping the community.

“Gilda’s Club is about to get that freezer, and then we’re hoping to get into another one as well, and then we have families that reach out as well. Weekly, probably. And just tell us people that are going through things and we try to find a way to help them, too," said Mary.
