ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — The City of Rock Island is asking for community members to nominate their neighbors for the 37th annual Citizen of the Year Awards.
The awards began in 1987 and are intended to help recognize people and organizations benefitting Rock Island. There are nine categories that community members can be nominated in:
- Individual
- Youth
- Education
- Professional
- Artist/Creator
- Veteran
- City Employee
- Business
- Organization, church or nonprofit
Nominations are open until 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8. You can submit a nomination here.
The winners will be announced at the Rock Island City Council Meeting on Monday, Aug. 26. All the recipients will participate in the city's Labor Day parade, and one winner will also be chosen to serve as the parade's grand marshal.
