MOLINE, Ill. — A new yoga studio has opened its doors in Moline.
Located on the second floor of the Spotlight Theatre Building in downtown Moline, Sanctuary Studios held a grand opening celebration on Tuesday, March 19 at 5:30 p.m. The studio offers clients the ability to pay whatever they're able to for their two daily classes, which will be held at 9 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. from Monday through Friday.
“I’ve practiced yoga for over a decade, but because I practice in a body that isn’t a ‘typical yoga body,’ I’ve always known that if I ever opened a studio, it would focus on accessibility and inclusivity,” owner Sarah Stevens said. “The pay-what-you-can model was the only way I could consider opening a studio that prioritized accessibility because it isn’t just body size or ability that keeps people out of group movement classes. It’s also cost, and so I had to find a way to change that if I wanted to be true to the vision.”
According to Stevens, the studio has 1500 square feet of space for classes and two private rooms for massage therapy and other bodywork.
