CLINTON, Iowa — Clinton's fire department is under new leadership, according to a press release. Current Battalion Chief Mike McQuistion was named the new fire chief effective May 28.
In the new role, he will oversee 50 full-time fire fighters along with five Building and Neighborhood Service (BNS) employees. He will be the 12th fire chief in the Clinton Fire Department's 134-year history.
McQuistion was born and raised in Clinton has been with the fire department for 25 years. He started as a firefighter parademic and has risen through the ranks during his time. Right now, McQuistion oversees one of the department's three shifts and leads the team through various emergent and non-emergent incidents, according to CFD.
“I am extremely pleased to have Chief McQuistion as our next fire chief," City Administrator Matt Brooke said in the release. "He has impressive qualifications and well-rounded experience working with the Clinton Fire Department. Mike’s passion for the fire service is infectious, and he has a reputation as being a leader that others want to follow. He is visionary, dedicated, and team focused with a desire to foster innovation, collaborate, and mentor the next generation of fire service leaders which will benefit the Clinton community and Fire Department employees.”
Following a series of interviews and tests, McQuistion was selected unanimously as the new fire chief out of four total applicants.
McQuistion earned a bachelors of science in fire administration and an associate of science in fire science from Columbia Southern University, along with holidng a paramedic certificate from Eastern Iowa Community College
