MUSCATINE, Iowa — Muscatine officials held a grand opening on Tuesday afternoon for the newly-renovated Tom Bruner Field.
The $2.5 million project brought a variety of upgrades to the baseball diamond, including all-new turf on the field. The upgrades were finished in time for the Muskies to host their varsity season opener on Tuesday night against Solon High School.
"We're hopeful as our youth come through and play at the park, come by and see this awesome facility and they have a desire to get out here, be able to play in the big field here," Muscatine High School Activities Director Mike Henson said. "And our high school kids, we've got great numbers going out this year, and this park has part to do with it, knowing that we've invested in the future of Muscatine baseball like we have."
The field's new press box is also named after longtime Muscatine head coach Bob Leech.
