Train derails in Muscatine County, injuring 1 worker

A CPKC spokesperson said multiple cars and two locomotives were derailed.

MIDWAY BEACH, Iowa — A train derailed in Muscatine County Saturday evening, leaving one worker injured. Officials say several cars and two locomotives derailed.

According to a spokesperson with the Canadian Pacific Kansas City railway company, the train derailed around 7 p.m. on June 29. It happened on a spur line track near Midway Beach, just west of Montpelier. 

One train crew member was taken to a local hospital to be treated for unspecified injuries. 

The cars carried steel and no hazardous materials were involved. The spokesperson said there is no threat to the public. 

Clean-up efforts are underway, according to CPKC. The cause of the incident is under investigation.
