Muscatine Officer-Involved Shooting: Suspects identified, officer placed on leave

Authorities have identified two men injured in an officer-involved shooting in Muscatine Wednesday afternoon.

MUSCATINE, Iowa — Authorities have identified two men injured in an officer-involved shooting in Muscatine Wednesday afternoon.

According to an Iowa Department of Public Safety (DPS) news release, 29-year-old Isidro Barajas Jr. and 33-year-old Juan Aldo Beltran Delgado, both of Muscatine, were identified as the men involved. They are being treated for their injuries.

Muscatine police said Wednesday that officers with the Muscatine County Drug Task Force served a search warrant within city limits around 3:30 p.m. on May 29. When law enforcement approached, police say Barajas Jr. and Delgado fled in a vehicle and led police on a high-speed chase on Highway 61.

While fleeing, police claim the vehicle was involved in a collision at the intersection of Highway 61 and Cedar Street. They then allegedly fled on foot and Muscatine police said several gunshots were fired shortly after.

Officials said a Drug Task Force Officer who fired their weapon has been placed on critical incident leave pending completion of the investigation. The case will be referred to the Muscatine County Attorney's office for review. The officer's name will be released at a later time.

Authorities have not said whether Barajas Jr. or Delgado have been charged with any crimes.
