MUSCATINE, Iowa — A Muscatine pizza delivery driver's act of generosity has inspired others in the community to follow his lead.
News 8 previously brought you the story of Jesus Gonzalez, who pooled his tips to donate to It Takes a Village Animal Rescue & Resources after the shelter brought in more than 60 dogs from a single rural home. Gonzalez brought in $260 worth of tips. He then received a matching donation from Salvatore Vitale, the owner of the pizza restaurant he works for, bringing his total to $520.
After reaching that point, word of the fundraiser spread, and Gonzalez said that multiple local businesses stepped in to match the total. According to a Facebook post, Skinny's Barbeque, WTC Communications, NextGen Motors of Muscatine and Overson Refuse & Recycling all pitched in another $520 each, bringing the final total from the fundraiser to more than $2,500.
Residents can make donations to It Takes a Village by visiting the shelter's website.
