DIXON, Illinois — A Rock Falls man is facing numerous charges after allegedly driving recklessly near Dixon and causing a multi-vehicle accident, according to officials.
On Tuesday around 4:37 p.m., Dixon police were informed about a reckless driver coming near the town via Illinois Route 2 from Grand Detour. The 911 caller told officials that the suspect was driving erratically and all over the roadway.
At the 1300 block of North Galena Avenue, officers were able to locate the suspect and saw them turn onto Liberty Court. The driver then drove off the pavement and onto the grassy area south of the Freedom Walk apartment complex. The vehicle failed to stop for the officer and made its way back onto North Galena.
The vehicle continued to drive at a high rate of speed and veered into the opposite lane, colliding with another vehicle. Two other vehicles were struck after the initial collision.
The driver was identified as Ryan Charleston, 40, of Rock Falls and was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Five other people in the remaining cars were injured as well, which police say were serious but not life-threatening.
Charleston has been charged for the incident, including:
- three counts of aggravated driving while under the influence
- driving while license is revoked/suspended
- aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer
- aggravated reckless driving
The Dixon Police Department was assisted by the Dixon City Fire Department, Advance Ambulance and the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
