Mr. Thanksgiving's holiday dinner will return

The event's new home will be at Mercado on Fifth.

MOLINE, Ill. — Despite initially planning to cancel it, a QC Thanksgiving tradition will live on.

For more than 50 years, Bob Vogelbaugh, better known as Mr. Thanksgiving, has spent the holiday giving out Thanksgiving meals to thousands of Quad Citizens. However, in late October, Vogelbaugh announced that the dinners would be ending.

But that's no longer the case. On Monday, Nov. 4, Vogelbaugh announced that his dinner would be making a return in a new home. The giveaway will be held at Mercado on Fifth at 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Nov 28.

“I am thrilled to see our community come together to support one another," Vogelbaugh said in a press release. "It’s heartwarming to know that we will continue providing meals and companionship to those in need. This holiday should be a time of joy, and with the help of our friends and volunteers, we can make that happen!”

R.I.A. Credit Union is sponsoring the dinner and helping cover the costs of the food. Officials with the credit union said all seven branches in the Quad Cities are open for monetary donations from the community, as well.

Anyone interested in volunteering at the dinner itself can sign up to do so here.
