State police says they have person of interest in death of Mount Carroll teen

Officials said they cannot yet release the name of the person of interest due to the ongoing investigation.

MOUNT CARROLL, Ill. — Editor's note: The video attached originally aired on July 31.

Illinois State Police (ISP) say they have a person of interest in the death investigation of 18-year-old Jackson T. Kradle.

Officials say they cannot yet release the name of the person of interest due to the ongoing investigation. ISP said that it has maintained regular communication with Kradle's family throughout the investigation.

Kradle's body was found on July 28 on Illinois Route 78 just north of Mount Carroll. The Carroll County Sheriff's Office reached out around 11:30 a.m. asking the state agency to conduct the death investigation. ISP said the Carroll County Sheriff's Office has been cooperative and has turned over all requested information.

A special prosecutor has been appointed in the case and will make decisions on charges after the investigation has concluded.

Protesters gathered outside of Carroll County Courthouse and the Carroll County Sheriff's Department Tuesday morning to protest the handling of the investigation.
