MONMOUTH, Ill. — A Keokuk, Iowa man has been arrested after officials said he threatened another man with a gun during a drug deal in Monmouth, Illinois.
The Warren County State's Attorney's Office said it happened around 9 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22 in the 400 block of East 11th Avenue. According to a press release, 28-year-old Ryan Oneill allegedly pulled out a handgun on another man during a drug deal inside a vehicle. That's when a struggle for the firearm ensued, causing it to go off.
No one was injured as a result of the gun going off, officials said. Oneill was arrested and charged with armed violence, possession of a firearm/ammunition by a felon, and possession of methamphetamine of more than 15 but less than 100 grams with the intent to deliver.
The state's attorney's office said investigators found a bullet hole in the windshield of the car Oneill was driving. They also found two bags of methamphetamine and a pistol magazine containing ammunition. The vehicle sustained collision damage and the airbags were deployed before police arrived.
Oneill remains in custody until his next hearing on Oct. 10.
