MOLINE, Ill. — The City of Moline is continuing to gather community input as they reinvent the Mississippi Riverfront area opened up by the demolition of the old I-74 bridge. They are kicking off a "Moline Front + Centre Plan" with an event on Saturday, Oct. 14.
The event, dubbed "Fall Fest," will run from 4 to 6 p.m. at the BridgePointe 485 Building at 1 Montgomery Dr., near the foot of the old KONE tower.
Community members can share their ideas for Moline’s riverfront while enjoying trick-or-treating, pumpkin decorating, free professional family photos, live music and a food truck from El Mariachi.
Free parking will be available at a parking lot adjacent to Montgomery Drive and 1st Avenue.
The city recently partnered with national design firm MKSK to develop a re-imagined Moline riverfront.
The firm, along with the City and Renew Moline, is launching the planning and design process that will "embrace engagement, community and ecological resilience, improving health and wellness for all ages, and catalyzing future investment within Moline Centre and along the Mississippi River," according to a release from the city.
The city says that this is the start of a series of events that will make sure the design plans align with what the community wants to see on the riverfront.
Plans for a new skate park and pump track under the new I-74 bridge are already underway. The future use of landmarks such as the KONE Tower, Speigel Building and BridgePointe 485 will also need to be determined.
