MOLINE, Ill. — One of Moline's historic landmarks is getting a second chance as officials plan to turn the former reader's haven into a musician's paradise.
After sitting empty for several years, the Carnegie Library building will become the new home of The Sound Conservatory, a local music store and event space, city officials announced in a Facebook post. The library opened in 1904 with financial support from Andrew Carnegie and served the city until 2008.
The main floor will include a piano showroom, recital room and retail store, and the top floor will eventually include music instruction rooms, although work hasn't been completed on them just yet.
Community members will be able to get a glimpse of the new space for themselves at an open house on Friday, Nov. 17 at 3 p.m. In addition to that, local singer-songwriter KAS will be hosting the first performance in the building's new recital room on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m.
