MOLINE, Ill. — A new complex of affordable apartments for low-income community members has opened in Moline.
Members of the Moline Housing Authority gathered with city officials to hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Spring Valley Village Apartments on Thursday, Dec. 14. The complex has 18 units. Residents will be able to begin moving in come January.
Officials said the project is opening its doors at a vital time, with hundreds of Moline community members on the wait list for affordable housing.
"We know we have a housing crisis across the country but also here in Moline it's really an affordable housing crisis, finding homes that are safe and accessible and can be paid for by folks who make a variety of amounts of money," Mayor Sangeetha Rayapati said.
According to the Moline Housing Authority, two more affordable housing complexes are still in the works, and they hope to start construction on them as soon as grant funding is approved.
