MOLINE, Ill. — Five local organizations received will be having some even happier holidays this season, thanks to generosity from the Kiwanis Club of Moline.
Every week at their weekly meetings, club members donate a dollar into a piggy bank while sharing personal news with the other members. Then, the money is gathered up and donated for the holiday season.
"We are very proud that through this collection, we can contribute to local organizations who serve youth. As Kiwanians who provide community service and support, we are happy to provide some good cheer to these local organizations, especially during the holiday season," Mike Daly with the Kiwanis Club of Moline said.
The Children's Advocacy Center, Gigi's Playhouse, Moline High School's Special Olympics team, the Salvation Army Heritage Corps, and Toys for Tots all received donations on Tuesday, Dec. 19. Many of the groups already have big plans for how they can put the grants to use.
"It will go to free, purposeful programs that we provide for individuals with Down Syndrome, a one-on-one literacy math speech program, group programs, kitchen fitness, a wide variety. It's an honor to be chosen as one of the organizations to receive funding. We're 100% privately funded, so donations are crucial to what we do," Pam Lynch, site director of Gigi's Playhouse said.
