Moline, Kewanee, and Quincy have been considered some of the most affordable cities in Illinois.

The top ten list was made by Movato, a real-estate based blog that reports quirky trends in the field.

To create the list, Movato used Census data to find cities with populations of more than 10,000. Each of those cities were ranked in six categories: food costs, utility costs, miscellaneous costs, median home price, unemployment rank, and adjusted median income.

With all those numbers swirling around, Movato then placed the top 10 cities in order from lowest costs to highest cost, making Chatham the most affordable city in Illinois.

Quincy, No. 6 – According to the Movato blog, Quincy scored well in unemployment category, utility costs category and had low miscellaneous costs like entertainment and clothing. However, the household income for most families is $44,531- which is almost the worst among all the cities they researched.

Kewanee, No. 7 – The Movato blog noted that Kewanee’s household income rank kept it from placing higher on the list.  They ranked “especially well” in home values, miscellaneous costs, and unemployment rate.  Kewanee placed second in the home values category with homes being valued at $61,400. The city’s unemployment rate was the sixth best.

Moline, No. 10 – Moline stood out in the utilities costs category, ranking at number four. Miscellaneous costs, were also very low, ranking 12 out of all other considered cities.
