MOLINE, Ill. — Students at Moline High School had an opportunity to put their artistic skills to use for a great cause.
On Thursday, Oct. 19, the school hosted its annual Empty Bowls Project. Students in the art department and Interact Club made clay bowls, which were then sold to community members. Anyone who purchased a bowl was able to sample soups and other foods from local restaurants.
The event raised money for the annual Student Hunger Drive, where area high schools raise food and funds for the River Bend Food Bank.
"The idea is that they're taking home an empty bowl to symbolize all the empty bowls that go unfilled in this season of fall and winter," Joel Delp, an art teacher at Moline High School, said.
More than a dozen local schools are participating in the Student Hunger Drive, which wraps up on Nov. 9.
