Moline Fire tackles garage fire Sunday night, under investigation

The fire occurred at the same address as a January homicide investigation. Police have not identified any connection.

MOLINE, Ill. — A Moline garage fire is under investigation after firefighters battled the blaze late Sunday evening, authorities say.

The Moline Fire Department received a call around 9:35 p.m. on Feb. 18 for a reported structure fire at 1836 46th St. When responders arrived on the scene, a detached garage could be seen fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters got the fire under control in about 20 minutes. No injuries were reported and no residents were displaced.

The fire occurred at the same address as a January homicide investigation, where the suspect, 55-year-old Chad Hillyer, allegedly killed his mother and then a close friend at another location. Police later learned Hillyer fatally shot himself in Coralville, Iowa. When asked if there was any connection between the two, Moline Fire said, "This incident is still under investigation and no further information is available at this time."
